Dust Control


Multi Fan design and supply complete dust control systems comprising one or more of the following essential elements:

  • Dust Capture Hoods
  • Extraction Ductwork
  • Air Movers
  • Filter Units

Under the COSHH legislation (enforced by the H & S E), employees must be protected inside the workplace from potentially harmful effects of certain dusts.
Similarly, external atmospheric pollution is controlled under the EPA legislation (enforced by the local authority or HMIP). Correctly designed dust control systems will provide a safe environment and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Multi Fan supply a full range of filter unit types and sizes. Filter selection is carefully considered to ensure effective compatibility with specific dusts. Filter types include:

• Bag filters
• Cartridge filters
• Rigid element filters
• Electrostatic filters
• Wet collectors
• Mechanical shake bag cleaning
• Reverse-pulse bag cleaning

Different filter bag fabrics (with optional surface treatments) are available to suit specific dust characteristics.


The unit illustrated is a reverse jet type self cleaning bag filter.
It is complete with a screw discharge unit in the dust collection hopper.


ATEX Compliance
When potentially explosive dusts are to be handled, filter units complying with ATEX directive 94/9/EC will be supplied. Special features will include:

• anti-static bags
• earth bonding
• explosion vent panels
• non-sparking fan components

Mechanical Collectors
On some applications, eg where air volumes are very large and particulate content is very high, mechanical separation (or pre-separation) may be appropriate.
For these applications Multi Fan design and supply a full range of varying efficiency cyclone separators.

Extraction Ductwork
Ductwork is available in various forms - spiral wound, lockformed or laser welded. Jointing methods are clipped, flanged or slip jointed.
Ductwork selection is made to suit the particular dust being handled.

Spares and Ancillaries
Multi Fan can supply competitively priced spare filter bags for all major filter types.
Dust emission monitors, either qualitative or quantitative, can be supplied.
