Production Waste Extraction

Multi Fan design and supply complete production waste extraction for use in the following converting applications:

  • Paper & Plastic Film - Slitter & Re Winder Edge Trims
  • Corrugator - Edge Trims
  • Carton & Board - Converting Machine Off-Cuts
  • Print Finishing - Waste

Using ducted air, Multi Fan extraction systems automatically remove production waste generated by converting machinery to remote centralised collection units, such as compactors or balers.
Systems are designed to suit specific applications and waste material types - using suction extraction or pressure blowing. Venturi extraction systems are available for continuous edge trim waste.

Typical System
The pictures opposite show a print waste system (ie multiple edge trims) being extracted to external collection bins.
The trims are extracted through in-line cutters before being drawn into a separator - by a single extraction fan. The separator is located above the collection bins.
An automatic cartridge filter cleans the conveying air before returning it to the production area.
The cutters (shown opposite) are located inside the production area, adjacent to the printing machines.

To minimize loss of conditioned air from the production area, the conveying air is cleaned through a reverse jet filter and then a HEPA filter before being discharged back into production - through an overhead distribution system.

Multi Fan supply a full range of components necessary in the construction of waste conveying systems, including those shown opposite:

The Air/Material Separator shown opposite is found at the end of a waste extraction system – gravity discharging waste into a baler, compactor or similar. It is available in sizes suitable for air input volumes from 3,500 m3/hr to 48,000 m3/hr.

In-line trim cutters can be installed in extraction ductwork to cut continuous web edge trims – so dramatically reducing bulk volumes and waste removal costs.

These units are available in different versions, enabling successful cutting of materials as diverse as carpet edge trim, down to plastic films as thin as 15 microns.

Rotary valves can be fitted underneath Air/Material Separators – to maintain an air-tight seal and so minimise dust emissions to atmosphere.
With this arrangement, conveying air discharging from the back of the separator is normally ducted into a bag filter. The cleaned air can then be returned to the factory – to minimise heat loss.

The Multi Fan cutting fan, shown opposite, forms the heart of most waste extraction systems. Material is drawn through the impellor and reduced in size before being blown to the separator.

These fans are complete with:

• Hardened steel cutting blades on the impellor
• Heavy duty case and bearings
• Top mounted motor & belt drive
• Spring loaded inlet to absorb surge loads
